New Orleans Facts:
The French Quarter
The French Quarter has it all, exquisite architecture, history, elegant shops, lacy ironwork, jazz clubs and of course, Bourbon Street. The French Quarter is an authentic slice of history. Many of the buildings date back to the 1700’s, and most of the architecture is Spanish not French. The entire area consists of 120 bocks on the bend of the Mississippi River. Many of New Orleans most important treasures are in the French Quarter such as the Cabildo, the site of the signing of the Louisiana Purchase in 1803 and the Cathedral of St. Louis, the oldest continuous active Roman Catholic Cathedral in the US. Not only is the French Quarter important historically, but it is also a thriving neighborhood with residents and businesses that have inhabited the area for generations.
